Pokiri
-
Finally Mahesh Babu has come up with an undisputable hit film. ‘Pokiri’ has all the right elements to make a larger-than-life hero out of him. Unfortunately, Puri Jagannath, the director, hasn’t shown any originality in the film. If the box office collection records are anything to go by, we can easily overlook that.
Here’s the story-
Ali Bhai (played by Prakashraj) is a notorious underworld don. He recruits a new member in the gang, Pandu (Mahesh Babu). Pandu soon proves his skills and becomes a very important member of the gang. Somewhere between his hectic life as an underworld don’s henchman, he also finds time to fall in love with a gorgeous aerobics instructor, Shruthi (played by Ileana). This leads to some friction between him and the local cop, played by Ashish Vidhyarthi, who also has an eye on her. The cop is also very friendly to Ali Bhai.
In the second half of the film, we are told that Pandu is actually an IPS officer Suryanarayanan. He is under a special assignment to go undercover and infiltrate the underworld gang and destroy it. The rest of the film is tells us how he goes about doing it.
Mahesh Babu has all the scope to flaunt his good looks and show his prowess in the action sequences. Ileana looks gorgeous. Everybody else does their job perfectly. There’s nothing else extraordinary to write home about.
Music is good too, especially the ‘Gala, gala’ song.
The film is meant to be a complete entertainer and it succeeds in it. The comedy track looks extremely unnecessary and annoying. After ‘Shri Ramadasu’, ‘Pokiri’ will be the biggest hit this summer. Mahesh Babu’s fans finally have something to cheer about in spite of the delay!
