Everybody is pleased with the fact that most of the films that were remade/dubbed in Telugu didn’t do that well, except 'Evadaithey Naakenthi’, which was remade from Malayalam film 'Lion’. The biggest casualty was 'Shankardada Zindabad’, which was the remake of 'Lagey Raho Munnabhai’.
Now, for some good news. There were some big hits and great revivals this year.
'Yamadonga’(director SS Rajamouli), 'Tulasi’, 'Adavari Matalukku Ardhamu Veruley’ , 'Desamuduru’ (director- Puri Jagannath), 'Lakshyam’ (director Shrinivas), 'Adithi’ (Surendra Reddy), 'Chiruta’ (Puri Jagannath again), 'Dubai Seenu’ (director- Seenu Vaitla) and 'Happy Days’ were the ones that made the cash register ring.
'Adithi’ was a very peculiar film. There was lot of hype surrounding the film, yes. Everybody agrees that it was a disappointment in AP. But, the film managed a very successful runs abroad and in countries like Poland!!!
'Yamadonga’ came just when NTR needed a hit very desperately. 'Chiruta’ wasn’t much in terms of story or narration, but Ramcharan couldn’t have asked for a better launch.
The sad story of the year belongs to Lawrence Raghava. The man was both an inspiration and at the receiving end of criticism and mockery. Everybody had a strong feeling that it was only a matter of time before his self-obsessed films flopped and it did with 'Don’. Nagarjuna escaped unhurt, but Lawrence Raghavan would need more than a miracle to make a powerful comeback.
But the year belongs to Shekar Kammula who had a wow year with the biggest blockbuster, 'Happy Days’. All the films that he had made until now had turned out to be one big blockbuster after the other. There were some who wondered if he’d even be able to make a film without Kamlini Mukherjee. He proved that he could and the film turned out to be a bigger hit than all his other films.
