Rumors say that the producers and director weren't happy about the kind of money that Padukone demanded for the film. They therefore shifted their attention to Mrs Rai Bachchan.
In some of her recent interviews, the actress had been giving indications that she wouldn't mind acting in a Tamil film. Shankar, who incidentally was one of the first directors to make a film with Rai, thought he saw a ray of hope and is now stepping up efforts to bring her into the film.
